Obituary of Suzanne B Cutler

Suzanne (Suzy) Cutler Suzy passed away on October 13, 2016. She was 69 years old. Suzy was born on February 23, 1947, to her exceptional parents C. Russell and Muriel R. Bengtson in Middletown, CT, a wonderful place in which to grow up with her beloved sister, Judy, a.k.a. "Strom." Suzy's ties to Connecticut included her love of Clinton where she spent so many enchanted summers and where she always said her essence dwelled. Suzy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965 and Upsala College in East Orange, NJ, in 1969. She taught in Bloomfield, NJ, for six years after which her career continued at Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ. At Bernards High she was honored by her colleagues as a Teacher of the Year, by the Student Council as Teacher of the Year in 2008, by a senior class who chose her to be Commencement Speaker, by the National Honor Society as an honorary faculty inductee, and recognized for her Outstanding Support of the Service Learning Program. She also served as advisor for both the Student Council and the creative writing magazine, Pinnacle, for many years. This year, Suzy was selected for the Wall of Honor at Bernards High. Suzy had a passion for literature which was "like air" to her and a cherished gift from her mother. She transferred that love of books to her students over her thirty-four years of teaching, another true love. She retired in 2013 still feeling excited each morning as she drove in to the parking lot of Bernards High School to share another day with her students and colleagues. Suzy is survived by her wonderful son, Alex, his wife, Hilary and three grandchildren, Blake, Hayden, and Graham of Atlanta, GA, her cherished sister, Judy, and her husband, Ray, of Basking Ridge, NJ, and her nieces Elizabeth and Kate, and their families. Also surviving Suzy are her "sisters by heart" and many dear, dear family and friends who supported her with such love during her final illness. Friends and family are invited to a visitation in memory of Suzy at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, on Saturday, October 22, from 11:00 – 2:00. In lieu of flowers, Suzy would like donations made to the VNA of Somerset Hills, the Bernards Township Library or Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption.
