My condolences to the family of Suzanne B. (Bengtson) Cutler. My name is Ira Sigal. I was an across the street neighbor of Suzanne and her family while I lived at 47 Tryon St, Middletown, CT 06457. She had a nice family. I did not live in Middletown very long, from June 24th, 1953, to Mid-April 1959, when my family and I moved to San Diego, CA. Again, my condolences to the whole family. Pls hang in there.
Sincerely,
Ira Sigal

Miss Bengtson (later Mrs Cutler) was my homeroom teacher at Bloomfield Senior HIgh School for three years. My first day of school at BHS was her first real day in front of students as a paid teacher the Wednesday after Labor Day in 1969. I can't say enough about her, so I won't try. In my year book she wrote in her beautiful handwriting, "Dear Joe, You have one of the greatest potentials of anyone I know. I'm so glad that I got to know you. Please keep in touch! Suzy." Of course, I did NOT keep in touch, although I recently tried to redeem myself by searching for her on FB and LinkedIn. I started too late to look and now I see that I failed. You were-and will continue to be-remembered and you will be missed. So, from one of your first students, one of the four guys at the art table by the door of Room 100 (two of the other three will definitely see this), Vaya con Dios, Suzy! Give Geri M (also from our homeroom) a big hug for us in Heaven. Deacon Joe Spadafino, Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix

My dear, dear Suzy. We are all so saddened to hear of your passing and only wish you had enough time for your family and self during your trying days. Your selflessness throughout your lifetime at BHS can never be replicated. You were our rock - our sister, aunt, mother, friend. Our halls have not been the same without you - nor will they ever be. Rest easy my dear Suzy! Forever in our hearts.

I'm so sorry to hear of Suzy's passing. I worked with her at BHS, and she taught both of my children. She was a wonderful woman, and I will always remember her as an upbeat, positive, and happy person, even when the world was crashing in on her. She will be greatly missed. My condolences to her family.

I remember one time in class I asked her if it were at all possible that she had a favorite book. Without hesitation she ran to her desk and picked up a giant hardcover tome and clutching it to her exclaimed "Oh OH OH you MUST read The Poisonwood Bible!!" I adored that spark! She was a truly wonderful and passionate woman. I wish I had told her that it was her warmth and her compassion that got me through some really tough times in high school. I really loved her and I'll miss her dearly. God Bless.

Mrs. Cutler was my teacher in the 80's. She came into our classroom to take Mrs. O'Farrell's place when Mr. Guthrie died. The day she came into the classroom I cried and cried and wouldn't even look at the "new teacher" because I loved Mrs. O'F so much. Mrs. Cutler was so patient and loving with us through the change and very, very soon was another one of my very favorites. She always saw the best in us and I loved her. She also taught my husband Eddie and he feels the very same way. We would see her in town after we had grown up and it always made us both so happy. She truly had such an impact on both of our lives- the exact example of a powerful influence. I know she is with Mrs. O'Farrell and they are catching up and sharing a laugh. We love you Mrs. Cutler

For twelve years I looked forward to Suzy's monthly note to me. She always shared some happy moment from the previous month - no matter how good or bad she was feeling. Imagine my pleasure when I opened my box the other day and found a note - not from Suzie but from her sister! You are both very special women! RIP "my friend".

I am so saddened to hear of your loss. Suzy was an amazing, inspiring, encouraging, loving teacher and woman. She introduced me to Jane Austin, Hardy, Bronte. She was a true romantic. I always think of her when I'm in England- especially in Bath or Cotswold countryside she would love and I wish I had let her know this. I'll always remember her beautiful smile and warm loving classroom-and that she loved piggies :)

I'm so saddened by this loss but also happy that Suzy has transcended the cancer she had to endure in this life. Suzy was an English teacher of mine in the mid 1970s who became a good friend after I graduated. Suzy recognized the muse at work in those she taught and knew, and her memory will continue to inspire me. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and tenacity was evident in all she did, and I know she fought very hard to beat this disease. I remember reading Death Be Not Proud in her class, which is now very fitting. Death has won a fleeting battle, but Suzy has has now passed through that dark portal and ascended to eternity. I will remember to keep Suzy in the present tense, for I knew she has just gone on a journey beyond where we can see her, and she will continue to be one of my muses until we meet again.

Mrs. Cutler, though I never had a class with her, still insisted on posting a picture of me from the newspaper on her classroom door. A little act like that made me feel important - as though I could do great things. She implicitly expressed that she believed in me, and that mattered. Thank you Mrs. Cutler.

I am so sorry to hear this news.
Mrs. Cutler was on a very short list of teachers who convinced me to take my studies seriously - a list of teachers who truly impacted my life and influenced the person I became. I was never the smartest kid in her class, but she never treated me like I wasn't. I still think of her regularly and with fondness.
She and her entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Everyone adored Suzie. Susie Miller told me that Suzie was the queen at Morristown Medical Center. And Susie Miller was correct. I was lucky to have been able to spend a little time with Suzie the week before she died. She was being transported to a treatment. We must have passed 20 people, doctors, nurses, technitions, aids, all who greeted her with a smile. We had a wonderful, upbeat conversation. She was very peaceful and philosophical. She was positive and ,yet, realistic. I left her sure that we would have many more visits.
