Obituary of Albert E Schmidt

Albert Ennen Schmidt, 85, of Monroe Township, NJ. and Frye Island, ME, passed away on March 23rd 2016, in Plainsboro, NJ. A celebration of his life will be held at Millington Baptist Church, 520 King George Road, Basking Ridge, NJ on March 29, 2016 with the viewing at 1:00pm and service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Albert was born on January 26, 1931 to Albert and Dorothy Schmidt in Jersey City, NJ. He graduated from Linden High School in 1949, earned his Bachelors of Science from Newark College of Engineering in 1959, and his Masters degree in Science from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1964. Albert worked as an engineer for Blonder-Tongue, RCA and GE over the course of his career. He retired in 1992. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Theresa Schmidt [nee Guzy], his brother Robert P. Schmidt and sister-in-law Mary Jean Schmidt [nee Fairchild] of Chester Springs, PA, his nephew Jeffrey Schmidt and wife Robin of Exton PA and niece Karen Gately and husband Patrick of Downingtown PA, his grand-nieces Theresa and Payton, grand-nephew Paul, his brother-in-law John Guzy and wife Helen of Piscataway NJ, his foster children Wayne Briner of Stirling NJ and John Schoonmaker of Greeley CO, his honorary daughter Jing Yu of Boston MA, honorary son, James Fang of NJ. He is preceded in death by his son, Gary and foster son, James Briner. Albert will be remembered best for his generous heart and intelligent mind. He was a foster father to many children. He was active in the Boy Scouts and in his churches in Maine and New Jersey. He was particularly active at the Frye Island Chapel. He formed his company, Tech Instruments, that built a machine to refine white blood cell donations for cancer patients while his son was in treatment. Always an adventurer, Al also had his pilots license, was a member of the BMW club and was a world traveller. He loved music, boats and the company of family and friends.
