Obituary of David L Zimmerman

David L. Zimmerman, 72, of Peapack, former owner of Long Valley Sunoco in Long Valley and Dave's Auto Care in Califon, died on Wednesday at his home. Born in Rochester, Pa he moved to Bernardsville and then to Peapack in 1962. Dave was a graduate of Bernards High School class of 1959 and served in the United States Navy and the Naval reserves 1959 to 1965. He was assigned to the USS Lake Champlain and stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Annapolis, MD. He was on the USS Lake Champlain at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Bay of Pigs. Dave was a wonderful mechanic and enjoyed antique cars. He was a member of the Antique Car Club of America, serving as president in 2005. He also was elected to the National Board in 1977. He was a member and past president of the Garden State Mustang Club, the Pennsylvania Mustang Club, the N.J. Region Antique Automobile club, and past president of the Early Ford V8 Club. He also was active in judging antique cars and Mustangs and just received an award for 250 Judging Credits in Philadelphia earlier the years. He also was a member of the Buzzards Breath Touring Region, Mustang Club of America, The Veteran Motor Club of America, the Ontelaunee AACA, and director of William E. Swigart Jr. Automobile Museum. He was also a member of the Peapack Reformed Church, Prospect Lodge#24 F and AM of Chester and the Bernays Apgar Post 342 American legion of Chester. He is survived by his wife Brenda Fisher Zimmerman, two daughter Vicki L. and husband Sven of Lebanon Twp, Dr. Kristi Zimmerman D.V.M. of New Boston, New Hampshire, his grandson Leif Mangulson of Lebanon Twp., his father William L. of Chester Twp, and a brother Thomas and his wife Shirley of Gilmanton, New Hampshire. The services will be held Tuesday June 3rd at 10:00am at the Peapack Reformed Church. Friends may visit at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ Monday June 2nd from 4-8PM.
