Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Young

Mary Elizabeth Young, 79, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Morristown Medical Center. Mary Elizabeth was born in Somerville and lived in Tewksbury Township. She attended Oberlin College earning her Bachelors Degree, and later attended Trenton State College receiving her Masters Degree. She worked as a history teacher and a librarian at Bernards High School for 41 years and the Morristown Free Public Library for over 50 years. She was a member and the organist at the Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Tewksbury. Mary Elizabeth was past president of the New Jersey Chapter National Society of Arts and Letters, past regent of the Basking Ridge Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, past president of Tewksbury Historical Society, and member of the Tewksbury Historic Preservation Commission, member of the Board of the Tewksbury Library, member of NEA, NJEA, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was a professional harpist and loved to teach the harp. Mary is survived by her sister Elinor Peter of Hopatcong, NJ. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 at the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave. Basking Ridge, NJ . Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 7, 2013at 11am at the Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 247 Old Turnpike Road, Califon, NJ. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Fairmount Presbyterian Church, and the Tewksbury Historical Society.
