Obituary of Robert K Fullagar, Sr.

Robert K. Fullagar

80, longtime Basking Ridge resident

Robert K. Fullagar, 80, of Basking Ridge, a devoted husband and father, passed on peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, it was announced by his son Robert Fullagar II and wife Patricia, his daughter Melanie Richards and husband Donald, and his daughter Sharon Vopal and husband James.

Born in Jutland, NJ, Bob grew up in Gillette, NJ, graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School in 1962 and from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) with a degree in Industrial Engineering.  He worked for Jersey Central Power & Light Company (later General Public Utilities), for 37 years, holding posts in the Stores and Substation departments, and in Operations, while he earned his degree.  Bob was elevated to Union Beach District Superintendent, Supervisor of Engineering, Manager of General Operating, Director of Distribution Business Management and later served as a Major Accounts Executive.

After retiring, Bob enjoyed driving a school bus for the Somerset Hills School District and was beloved by the students in his care and their families.  Bob valued learning, was himself inquisitive and ingenious, and was skilled in construction and related vocations.  He lived to help people, but what meant most to Bob was family, especially the love of his life, his wife of 56 years Nancy (Bennett) Fullagar, who predeceased him in 2022.  The two enjoyed gardening together and devoted themselves to caring for their grandchildren.

Bob will be remembered as a man of great love, generosity, honor, strength and courage by his six grandchildren – Robert Fullagar III, Brian Fullagar, Sarah Richards, Rachel Richards, Rebecca Vopal and Emma Vopal - and by his brothers Kenneth Fullagar of Gillette, NJ and wife Elda, and Joseph Fullagar of San Diego, CA and wife Georgiann, and their families.

Bob trusted in God’s love and mercy, and in Jesus Christ his Savior.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Hearts for Honduras, PO Box 118, Liberty Corner, NJ 07938. For further information, or to leave an online condolence message please visit www.gcfuneralhome.com
