Obituary of Gavin D Spitzner
Gavin Spitzner, 57, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, died at peace and with no regrets on January 30, 2023 after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born on December 3, 1965 in New Brunswick, NJ to Karen Spitzner and the late Joe Spitzner, Gavin had a wonderful childhood growing up in central Ohio but perhaps stimulated by his love of books and learning he inherited from his parents, he developed a wanderlust that took him on adventures around the world after college and ultimately led him to moving to New York City where he threw himself into a career in advertising. He loved exploring the city with friends he met along the way and ultimately making the move across the Hudson to Hoboken.
He enjoyed summers at the Jersey Shore in his home away from home, Bayhead. One fateful weekend in 1993 he met Lisa who happened to live just a couple short blocks away in Hoboken and they began their journey together, taking them to Basking Ridge in 1997 where they raised their family. Gavin felt re-born as he saw the world through his children’s eyes and spent every possible minute with them, reading to them, playing with them and playing music and as they grew, coaching them and finding ways to stay involved from scoutmaster to adventure guides leader to joining the Pit Crew to see Cole’s love of marching band up close. He was thrilled to see how he had passed on his love of music, humor, puzzles, hiking, photography, travel, sports and so much more.
He took great joy planning family trips and showing his family the world, from some of the great cities of the world to exploring nature at National Parks. He was very intentional about exposing the kids to culture and history but there was nothing he loved more than hiking in the mountains with his family.
After a successful career in financial services, Gavin followed in his family’s footsteps by going to work for himself and establishing his own consulting firm. He loved his clients and all the people he worked with and took great pride in his work. He loved the strategic challenges and was very passionate about helping people achieve the most out of their finances and live their best lives.
Gavin is survived by his loving wife of more than 25 years, Lisa, their three children Benjamin, Juliana and Cole, his mother Karen Spitzner and his stepmother Marion, his brother Jeff Spitzner (Hannah), in-laws Tony and RoseAnne Zajkowski, brother-in-law Tony (Jordana) Zajkowski and a niece (Violet) and nephew (Jonah).
