Gavin was the best. Back in the 80s, he was part of the gang that hung out at the Oswald and the Herringbone shows in Columbus, OH. He became friends with everyone. He knew everyone. He loved everyone. He was, quite simply, in love with life. It's crushing to see him pass at such a young age. I take solace in knowing he had wisdom that went well beyond his years. My thoughts are with all of his family and friends.
A quick tale about Gavin's heroics:
I was having pizza with Gavin and his roomies before a concert and I went out to the kitchen to get another slice. I stopped and screamed bloody murder when I saw a large spider - about as big as a mouse - skitter across the kitchen floor. All I could get out was the word "Spider!"
Gavin got up from the couch and ambled out to catch the thing and put it outside. He took one look at the beast and screamed even louder than me -- which put us all in stitches. He was always so goofy and funny, and so very dear.

Gavin helped coach a couple of my baseball teams when I was younger. A lot of coaches are harsh on the kids, but Gavin was always the kindest and his kindness was contagious. He wanted us to play well, but above all else he wanted us to be happy and have fun. It was a pleasure to have known him and it’s hard to believe he’s not around anymore. I think if more people were like him the world would be a happier place.
