I was an elementary student of Mrs Koch’s in the early 90’s in Staten Island. She was my absolute favorite teacher. I thought of her this evening now that I have children of my own in elementary school and decided to do a Google search to reach out to her. I am sad to see that I was just a few months too late to let her know what an incredible impact she had on my education. I think of her often when I read a Paddington book to my youngest child or a Boxcar Children’s book with my oldest. She was beautiful inside and out. May she rest in peace and may her family know how loved she was, far and wide.

Bill, Beloved Bern. We will all miss her so much. She made the world a better place. Her kindness and generosity knew no Bounds. Ava adored her. I will remember her beautiful smile that could light up any room, hilarious stories that kept us captivated for hours. Our happy hours, dinners and fun adventures like sailing together in Montauk. We will love Bern forever. Xoxo

Bill,
Joan and I treasure the times we’ve spent together during wonderful evenings past when we belonged to the same wine tasting group here in Basking Ridge and could still drink wine. You were both great hosts and fun loving folks to be around. Bernadette lived life fully helping to make our world a better place just as you do. Joan and I are ever grateful for the great service you and Bernadette together rendered our country and feel that our sentiment will somehow reach her in Heaven where her star still shines. While you deal with and mourn her great loss we will keep you and all of Bernadette’s loved ones in our prayers consoled by the fact Heaven now has her star to help guide us. Our sincerest condolences to you and your family.
Best and God Bless,
John and Joan Burns

Maureen and I were fortunate to have met Bernadette through Donna who we are so blessed to have as our daughter in law after dating and marrying our son Michael. We seemed to connect with her and Bill very quickly after our first meeting during parents' weekend at Catholic University. From that first meeting, we shared many happy times with Bernadette and Bill at family events, the Wounded Warrior Bike ride and we had the pleasure of being their guests at 2 West Point football games.
Bernadette was very quick to blame me for the very cold early November weather that day as I picked the game. Her quick wit was one of the things we enjoyed most along with her stories, jokes and most importantly her endless hospitality, generosity and love of family and friends. She always made you feel so welcome and was always a pleasure to be with.
She will be truly missed not just by the Hogan's but by all who knew and loved her and were loved by her, yet she will live on in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bill, Donna and Tara as well as her beautiful granddaughters, sister Alice and her family. May God hold Bernadette in the palm of his hand and his light, until we meet again.
Love, John and Maureen Hogan and family

I will truly miss Bernadette. We shared many of our birthdays and holidays together. She and I drove together to Montauk to pick up Donna, who I love so much. We also enjoyed NYC together, seeing plays and enjoying meals (and maybe a few drinks ;-)). I Loved Bernadette very much, Vivian Gallagher

We are so blessed and grateful to have known Bern through mom Edwina. Bern was the most kindest person I have ever met. Our children are extremely lucky to be loved by Bern. She would drive miles and miles just to drop off the stuff for them. I remembered one time when she was on her way back from Mountauk, she texted me and said she’ll stop by because she has something to give it to the kids. I told her please don’t because it’s long drive and she should drive home instead. She said it’s ok, she wanted to see the kids. Bern offered to babysit our son when we had to take our daughter to the see the specialist. She spent a day making art&craft with him and making sure he eats lunch &take naps. She would walk with me to the school to pick up the kids. We will cherish the previous pictures we had with you Bern. We love you Bern. We are so thankful for your love&kindness. You will be truly missed but will be forever in our heart ❤️

Bill, Donna and family-
What a life! I first met Bern through the New Jersey Youth Chorus...the beginning of our friendship over the years. I chuckle when I think of my first impression of her- so prim and proper. I told her of my first impression after I knew her better and she had a good laugh. Bern frequently played funny, (yet not mean-spirited) practical jokes- you never knew when you would get pranked.
We had so many laughs--she was, as my daughter says "always a good time". Beautiful inside and out.
We all loved Bern. We will miss her.
