Obituary of Douglas P Henderson

Douglas P. Henderson, 58, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away suddenly of a cardiac event on March 3, 2021. Born March 19, 1962, in Westwood, NJ, Doug grew up in Peapack Gladstone and attended Bernards High. He graduated from Worcester Polytech in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He spent several decades in the medical device industry before finding a great fit at Colgate-Palmolive in Piscataway where he has been since 2010. Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Sullivan)[; his older brother, Brian, from Danville, VT; and his nephew, John of Denver, Co. He was predeceased by his parents Norman and Sara and his younger brother, Kevin. Doug’s first love was spending time with Barb and family. He was an avid food and wine enthusiast, a passionate cook who loved sharing his culinary creations, a nature lover and an outstanding friend to all. His family remembers him as a wonderful son, brother, husband, nephew, cousin, uncle, and in-law. Doug was loved by young and old alike--children sought him out because of his kind way and gentle heart, and “seniors” treasured his talent for listening and making them feel special. He was an empathetic listener, a calm reassuring presence and the first one to offer help and support to anyone who needed it. Doug was a compassionate, gentle man who will be greatly missed. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, from 4:00-7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, 11:00am at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Interment will be private for the family.
