I am saddened to learn of Ms. Furness's passing. I had the privilege of working under Ms. Furness at JCPenney from 1978 to 1981 as one of the secretaries in the Women's Dress department, and directly for her from 1981-1982 as her executive secretary -- even though she knew I was going to leave JCP and move in 1982. She was absolutely an amazing person, and I cherished the time that I worked for her. Although some may have thought of her as tough, I always thought of her as being kind and so very fair. She was an advocate for so many women at JCP. Even after I left JCP, I still kept in touch with her through our Christmas cards to each other. While she always signed her Christmas cards "Dot", I could never bring myself to address the cards in that way -- She will always be "Ms. Furness" to me. May she rest in peace.

I have been trying to locate Dorothy for several years - since my mother, Evelyn Lenzen Christie, died in 2014. They were class mates at Baton High in Elizabeth, NJ. My mom attended all of the Class of 1946? reunions that Dorothy organized and enjoyed them very much. After reading her obituary, I think they must have been a lot alike: caring, social, altruistic.
I have some old photos that I had hoped to send to Dorothy to share at the next reunion. I do not know if there are any class mates left alive, or if they still have the reunions. If any of the family knows of people alive who might enjoy these photos, I would be glad to send them. I can be reached at the above email.
It is very difficult to loose a parent or old friend. I am always thankful when I can say they lived a good life and cared about others. Then I can smile at the good memories. They would want us to keep smiling.

We are saddened to hear the news of the death of our great neighbor. As the youngest of eleven I had the privilege of growing up next door to "Ms. Furness" and have very fond memories of her kindness to us as kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Borea at this sad time.
