Dear Dr. DeMaio and all of Maureen's family,
My deepest sympathy is with you all at this time. Maureen was a pleasure to work with and she was always so thoughtful of others. She was an encouragement to me when my sister was very ill, providing information and offering to speak with my sister to share her own experiences and strength.
She always expressed concern about colleagues who were going through challenges and took the extra step to make a call, or send a note of encouragement.
We were serving together on a School of Nursing committee over the past year and she was amazing. She pushed us all to get things done, with a smile and a firm hand. She was about action to support Rutger's mission and goals. She will truly be missed here at Rutgers.
I am so sorry about the recent loss of Mr. DeMaio, and now Maureen's passing on. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Sincerely,
Lynn

My sincere condolences to Ray, Matt, Aunt Dottie, and Larry, Michelle, Diane, and Jim. It was a privilege to be included in Maureen’s periodic correspondences as she documented her valiant fight: messages filled with stark honesty, inspiring “warrior” tales, selfless outreach to others sharing the same plight, and a deep love for her family and friends, all leavened with a wry, witty humor that captured her pure, engaging, and caring personality. Rest assured that Maureen’s heroic example and her extraordinary achievements as a scholar and educator will never be forgotten. We will miss you greatly, Maureen.

My heart is at a loss after learning of the passing of my dear friend and mentor, Dr. Maureen Esteves. Maureen, or 'Mother Dearest' as I always called her because people always said that I looked like her :), was my very first boss when I graduated from Rutgers University and began working at the Rutgers College of Nursing from 1999 to 2003. Along with Dr. Elaine Dolinsky, Maureen showed me the true meaning behind being a true educator and mentor to students. Whether it was talking about family or business, she was always there for her students and staff. I could not have asked for a better boss to learn from. Maureen, you are and always will be a champion and will be greatly missed. My condolences to her husband Ray, her son Matt and the rest of her family on their loss.
