Please find some comfort in this Bible scripture, "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice+ 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life," John 5:28-29. This is God's promise to us.

Aloha Uncle Charlie and his family! I am greatly sadden by his departure; he is somebody we truly miss. It was indeed fun to visit him and our cousins in New Vernon. I did not know of some of the humorous practices reported in the obituary but in retrospect they seem in character with his good nature. Roaming around the house -- with its history part -- and the big yards was always a treat.
I'm so glad that I was able to phone Uncle Charlie last year just to talk and thank him again for a great act of trust and kindness in 1961. I was on my way to catch up with with my parents, brothers and sister already in Finland. I taken the Greyhound from California to New Jersey so as to be able to fly out of what was then Idlewild Airport. With a few days to spend, I was considering another bus ride, this time to New Hampshire to visit the McLane cousins and Aunt Poly. Uncle Charlie stepped in saying take the second car. I was grateful for the transportation but more particularly for the act of trust. Based on a number of trips over the same route as a child I navigated through NYC and the parkways to New Hampshire and back without mishap.
The last time talked with Uncle Charlie in person was in 1993 on a side trip from a UN conference I was attending. He enriched our lives and his memory is treasured.
Iakwe, Aloha and Love, Charlie!

Dear Amy and Vicky, I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Charlie. Although not an actual relative, he was perhaps my favorite uncle. We didn't see much of him living so far away, my mother always spoke very fondly of him and looked forward to visiting when she was back east.
Love,
Margaret

To my second family Amy and Vicky- I am deeply sadden that "Mr. Hurd" has gone from this earth. You will never know the depth of my love and appreciation for the love and kindness that both Sue and Charlie showed to a little girl who lived down the road. Your words of his life captured so many wonderful aspects of a quiet, gentle giant. He was always a "giant" in my eyes. He loved and cared so BIG. Thank you Mr. Hurd for always watching over me and your family. Judy
