Obituary of Joan Mastro

Joan Mastro (nee Donofrio), 87, of Clearwater, Florida and formerly of Basking Ridge, New Jersey of 46 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2nd at East Bay Rehabilitation Center, Clearwater, Florida. Born and raised in Newark, NJ before moving to Basking Ridge. During her working career from 1947-1968, Joan was a secretary for the U.S. Government in the Federal Works Agency (later changed to General Services Administration), The Department of Justice at the U.S. Attorney's Office, and the National Labor Relations Board, all located in Newark, NJ. Her career later brought her to Dobbs Realty, Better Homes and Gardens, located in Bernardsville, NJ, as a sales associate. She was an officer and member of the Bernards Township Area League of Women Voters and an officer and member of the Basking Ridge Garden Club. She also enjoyed memberships at Spring Brook Country Club, Morristown, NJ and Manasquan River Golf Club, Brielle, NJ. She was a subscriber to the NY Giants football team, the Metropolitan Opera, The New Jersey Symphony, the McCarter Theater, the Paper Mill Playhouse and the New Jersey Ballet. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Francis A. Mastro, Attorney, in June of 2008, as well as her parents, Mary P. Donofrio (nee DeRose) and Anthony D. Donofrio, of Newark and Spring Lake, NJ. She is survived by her brother, Robert F. Donofrio, of Clearwater, Florida, her nephew, Robert Donofrio and his wife, Susan Donofrio of Brielle, NJ, her niece, Carol Flynn of Hernando, Florida and their children Cassandra Donofrio, Matthew Donofrio and Jonathan Flynn. She is also survived by her Aunt Virginia Nesta and cousin Joseph Nesta of Wethersfield, CT., cousin Genevieve Tetta of Brick, NJ, cousin Richard Carlo and his wife Diane Carlo of Farmingdale, NJ, and cousin Sally Atkins and her husband Robert Atkins of Woodland Park, NJ. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ from 2:00 – 4:00pm & 6:00 – 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015, 10:00am at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge, NJ.
