Obituary of James Juster
Jim passed away on August 6, 2015. He was a resident of Bernardsville, NJ. His family will hold a memorial service on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the Church of St. James in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Jim was born to Charles and Alvina Juster on June 19, 1947. Heattended Regis High School in New York City and proceeded to the University of Notre Dame in 1965, where he earned one of the University's inaugural Bachelor of Science Degrees in Computer Science in 1969. He married the love of his life, Rosemary, in 1972 and they had three children together.
A devoted family man, Jim threw himself wholeheartedly at the loving labor of raising his children to be considerate and responsible adults. He taught his family to live vigorously; to love unconditionally; to reach for the moon, but to be content among the stars; and to follow their dreams no matter where they may lead. He taught by his example that people are the most precious part of any life, and that the truest measure of a life is its impact on others. Jim was a Soccer Dad, a school band groupie, an adult leader in swim teams and Boy Scout troops, a computer wizard, a home repair and carpentry expert, a frustrated perfectionist, a patient teacher, an inveterate animal lover, and a phenomenal role model for his children.
A heartfelt love for the University of Notre Dame pervaded his life, and was on full display each fall Saturday when Jim watched with rapt, almost religious, attention as the football team made its latest run for the National Championship. He was lucky to see one in person in 1966, while a student at Notre Dame, and proudly carried keepsakes from that season throughout his life.
His love of sailing followed as a close second, an affection he shared freely with his family and friends. To see him on the water - tiller in hand, eyes on the horizon, and a rail in the water - was to see a man fulfilled, mastering the elements and driving relentlessly toward distant adventure. His guests on these adventures were the truly lucky ones, however, as they were privileged to enjoy a master's touch at the helm and exceptional company during their temporary respite from terrestrial bonds. When he owned his own sailboat, he proudly christened her "Higher Powered."
His indelible mark lives on in those who survive him: his wife, Rosemary; his three children and their spouses: Jim, Kathy, Ken, Anna, Tom, and Liz; and his five grandchildren: Charlie, Alex, Tommy, Eliza, and Anne.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the American Lung Association. For further information please contact Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home at 908-766-0250, or to light an online condolence candle please visit our website at www.gcfuneralhome.com
