Obituary of Judith Claire Vincent

Judith "Judy" Claire Vincent, 73, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on Tuesday, April 21st. She was the widow of the late Dr. Gordon Ross Vincent, who passed away in 2001. Born on June 25th, 1941, in Morristown, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Pauline (Selzer) Cuff. Judy had a lifelong passion for music and throughout her school years, had many accomplishments: National Honor Society, NJ All State Chorus member, member of a barbershop quartet, and accompanist for the glee clubs and chorus. She graduated from Montclair State College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music after having self-funded her college education, working evenings and weekends. Judy then pursued a career as a music educator, having taught mainly instrumental music to elementary school age children in Portland, OR, Chatham, NJ, Essex Fells, NJ, Rockaway Township, NJ and ultimately finished her career where she lived most of her life in Basking Ridge, NJ. Throughout her retirement, she continued to stay active with music, having tutored many students, and was a member of many bands, orchestras and symphonies throughout the state of NJ. She was most recently a member of the Chatham Community Band, and the NJ Oom-pa band. She was self-taught in almost all of the instruments she played, but her main passions were piano, violin and baritone horn. Judy was a proud co-founder and a lifelong member of the Groundhog Observer Corps, having established chapters in both Portland, OR and Basking Ridge, NJ. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. She also had a unique brand and sense of humor that one could only associate with Judy. Judy is survived by her three children – Carol, Doris Kenniff (Charles Griffith) and Tom (Mary), four grandchildren, Stephen, Kayleigh and Kelsea Kenniff and Jack and her brother Tom Cuff. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 27th from 9:30 – 11:30am at Gallaway and Crane funeral home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Interment will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. A memorial luncheon will follow.
