Obituary of Janet H McGahey

Janet Haas McGahey December 3, 1930 to March 30, 2015 Teacher, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend to All Janet McGahey a lifetime resident of Basking Ridge, New Jersey passed away peacefully on the afternoon of March 30th at Morristown Hospital surrounded by her closest friends and family both near and far. She graduated from Bernards High School in 1948; and from Trenton State Teacher's College in 1952 She taught 2nd grade for the Borough of Watchung for 5 years. Married to Emmert Wallace McGahey Jr. in 1958, who was killed in an airplane accident in October 1959 near Crozet Va. She was a substitute teacher, as well as special education teacher in the Bernards Township School System for many years. She continued to teach at the Children's Corner in Liberty Corner until retiring at age 80. She was very active in The Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church, she loved to sing in the choir and was involved in the Youth ministry. She served many terms as deacon, on the board of Trusties, as elder, and as Sunday School Teacher. She also volunteered for the Presbytery of Elizabeth Committee of Ministry, where she provided assistance and guidance to congregations in the process of nominating new ministerial staff. She loved traveling, exploring new places, as well as visiting her many friends and extended family. She remained close friends with those from church, high school, and college throughout her life . She will be missed by many near and far. She was predeceased by a sister, Miriam Olsen, and her husband, Robert. She leaves behind a brother, John F. Haas, sister-in-law, Nancy, son, Wally McGahey, daughter-in-law Bridget, grandchildren: Brittney and Nicole. She also leaves behind her Brother-in-law Joe-Ed McGahey, his wife Dotsy, Sister-in-law Marry Pase and her husband Richard, and many, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church on Saturday April 18th 2015 at 11:00am. 45 Church Street, Liberty Corner, NJ 07938. Phone: (908) 647-0340
