Obituary of Bridget V Sharkey

Bridget Veronica Sharkey (nee Bradley), 86, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2015, surrounded by her children. Bridget was born on February 18, 1929, in Cloonacool, County Sligo, Ireland, the third of twelve children of Michael and Helena Bradley (nee Wynn). She immigrated to the U.S. in 1949, moving to Madison, N.J. Bridget met her husband, the late Ted Sharkey, at a dance in Newark, N.J., for the newly arrived Irish immigrants. They were married in 1956 and settled in West Orange, N.J. Bridget lived in West Orange, Verona, N.J., and Barnegat Township, N.J., and finally at the Chelsea in Bridgewater, N.J. Faith and family were most important to Bridget. Her happiest days were spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She created a wonderful and warm home for everyone. She is survived by her children, Mary and son-in-law Hugh Gleason of Fairfield, CT, Eileen and son-in-law Kevin McGarry of Eatontown, N.J., and John Sharkey and daughter-in-law Carol Wrenn of Bernardsville, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Angela Faasen, Stephen McGarry, Brianna McGarry, Patrick Gleason, Andrew Gleason, Audrey Gleason, Elizabeth Sharkey and Megan Sharkey; three great-grandchildren, Isla McGarry, Patrick Faasen, and Amelia Papapietro; her brothers Michael, Patrick, Robert, John and Joseph Bradley; her sisters, Kathleen Dowd, Bernadette McNiffe, Ethna Walsh and Joan Haran and many nieces and nephews. Bridget was recently predeceased by her loving husband, Ted. She is also predeceased by her sister, Mary Moore, and her brother Kevin Bradley. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, N.J., from 5 to 8 p.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Seney Drive, Bernardsville, N.J. on Friday, March 20, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Associations or the charity of your choice.
