Obituary of Gert Von Der Linde

Gert von der Linde of Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, NJ, formerly of Madison, passed away on February 10, 2015. He was 85 years old. Born in Bergneustadt, Germany, Gert graduated from the University of Munich and University of California, Berkeley where he received a PhD in economics. He taught economics and finance with a focus on capital markets at UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and Stanford University in Palo Alto, before leaving academia for Wall Street. In 1968, Gert began what would be a 25 year career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, first as a financial services analyst and then as the firm's Chief Economist. He retired from DLJ in 1993, spending his remaining years studying the financial markets and international affairs as a private investor. He served on the board of Drew University as well as the Madison Housing Authority. Gert is survived by Margaret (nee Kent), his wife of almost 61 years as well as his sons Peter; Edward and his wife Susanne; special family friend John and his wife MaryBeth; and seven grandchildren. Gert is also survived by three of his six brothers and their families, all of whom reside in Germany. Gert's singular wit, intelligence and love will be missed by all who knew him.
