Obituary of Walter R Lagarenne

Walter R. Lagarenne, 89, a 50 year resident of Bernardsville, passed away at King James Care Center of Chatham on Thursday, January 22, 2015. One of 6 children, Walter was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 2, 1925, to Walter G. and Margaret Lagarenne. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Jean and Harold, and his sister Florence. Walter graduated from Brooklyn Tech high school in 1943, and enlisted in the US Navy during WWII where he was selected as a candidate for the V-12 Navy College Training program implemented to supplement the force of commissioned officers in the US Navy during WWII. Under the auspices of the V-12 program, Walter graduated from Harvard University in 1946, and he remained in the US Navy Reserve until 1961, achieving the rank of Lieutenant J.G. Walter began his professional career with Prudential Insurance Company in 1947, attended law school at St Johns University at night, and graduated near the top of his class in 1954. He was also admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in 1954. Walter's career at Prudential Insurance Company spanned 39 years of dedicated service, attaining the position of Vice President of District Agencies prior to his retirement. Walter was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara (nee Woodbury) Lagarenne; his children: Susan (Lagarenne) Harris of Charlottesville, VA, Paul Lagarenne, MD, and daughter-in-law Priscilla (Wilson) of Califon NJ, Walter Lagarenne Jr, PE, and daughter-in-law Carolyn (Anonie) of Summerville, SC, Jonathan Lagarenne, JD, and daughter-in-law Jill (Francheski) of Castle Pines, CO, Barbara and son-in-law LTC (ret) Robert Price of Ellicott City, MD, and Nancy and son-in-law Sean Dolan, JD, of Wilmington, DE; sixteen loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sister Dorothy Cebulski of Amagansett, NY, and his brother Robert Lagarenne of West Islip, NY. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge NJ. The rite of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in Bernardsville. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
