Obituary of Charles Carswell
Charles Hackett Carswell, 90, of Basking Ridge, N.J., died on December 29, 2014, at Morristown Memorial Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary at Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1 East Oak St., Basking Ridge. Born on December 25, 1925, to the late Bryce & Lillian Carswell of Basking Ridge, Charles served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 414th Infantry, in Europe during World War II from August 1943 until January 1946. He graduated Rutgers University in 1949 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration and worked as a Certified Public Accountant for many years. Charles was an active and faithful member of Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church since 1937. Charles was married to Sally Ann Carswell who died June 5, 2011; both deeply loved dogs, particularly Boxers. Charles was pre-deceased by his brother Bryce Carswell, Jr, of Brick, N.J., in 1999. Charles is survived by nephews Bryce and Robert Carswell of Forked River, N.J., and niece Nancy Carswell Powell of Sammamish, W.A.
