Obituary of Emelinda L Abbate

Emilinda L. Abbate of Basking Ridge, NJ, formerly from Summit, NJ, passed peacefully on Friday November 21, 2014 amongst her family at home and surrounded by love. Born June 26, 1932 as eldest daughter of Chiarina and Salvatore Galati in Ozone Park Queens, she is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years Benaldo M. Abbate, son Joseph and is now reunited with her son Anthony. Mother in Law and Grandmother to Carla, Anthony, Benito, Nicolo and Gabriella Abbate she led us as matriarch of our family together in one home. Emily was a Charter member of United Cerebral Palsy in Long Island NY where she worked tirelessly in contributing to humanity and in turn had many loyal friendships from all walks of life, near and far. Emily was also a charter member of Cancer care in Long Island after she championed and won a fight for her son Anthony's bout with Hodgins as a child. She took her experience and made herself available to other families facing cancer through Cancer care. When she moved to Summit NJ in 1983 she immediately began to volunteer for the Dominican Nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary. Her years of service engaged her in exceptional friendships with extraordinary people who will remember her forever. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM & 6:00 - 8:00 PM at St. James Church Chapel at 184 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 10:00 am at St. James Church, Basking Ridge. Internment will follow at St. Theresa Cemetery, Summit NJ.
