Obituary of Peter Pinto

Peter Pinto, 78, of the Basking Ridge section of Bernards township passed away on Friday , Nov. 14 surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and will be missed tremendously by his adoring family. Mr. Pinto was born in a small town in Italy, Mola di Bari, to loving parents Mateo and Cecilia Pinto. After immigrating to the US, Peter settled in New York City and became a US citizen at the age of 12, riding his bike to take the test on his own. Blessed with a family who valued education, Peter overcame obstacles of the age to graduate high school, obtain a BA in Finance from Queens College and earn an MBA from CCNY. After spending 2 years in the army with the 78th Artillery division in occupied Germany, Peter came home to marry his beloved wife Barbara in 1960. After taking a position with Olivetti Corp, Peter volunteered for a new management training program related to computing and became a pioneer in creating and implementing the first computer systems within the company. When Olivetti moved their operations out of NYC in 1973, Peter relocated his family to Basking Ridge. Upon taking a position at Ingersoll-Rand Co., Peter innovated changes to manual processes and implemented computer applications never before seen at the company. He then became the first Chief Information Officer (CIO) the company ever had. After retirement, Peter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved following political debates and the financial markets. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara, three children, Cecelia Fasciano, Matthew Pinto and Linda Wittmann, eight grandchildren who were his pride and joy, a loving sister and her husband, Julia and Richard Chitos, seven nieces and nephews and their spouses whom he loved and cherished in his life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
