Obituary of Paul S Lundgren
Paul Sand Lundgren, 67, a resident of Far Hills, NJ, was born May 4, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY. He died on Monday, August 4, 2014 from lung cancer. His mother was Ruth Sand Lundgren; his father was Milton L. Lundgren. He grew up in Norfolk, Conn.
Paul was a graduate of the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn. He graduated from Trinity College, Hartford, Conn. with a BA in Religion, from Yale Divinity School with a Master of Arts in Religion and from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, with a Master's in Business Administration. Between his first and second years at Yale Divinity School he spent a year teaching English in a mission school in northern Thailand.
For several years after graduation from Wharton he worked in the Retirement Fund of Bethlehem Steel but spent most of his professional career in New York City with the Retirement Fund of the national YMCA.
Paul invested his personal time in several different interests. He loved sailing. For five years he held a U.S. Coast Guard awarded Captain's license for the Inland Waterway. He was a member of the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, Oyster Bay, New York. From his father he acquired a love of singing. Besides singing in the choirs of the churches he belonged to over the years, while living in Bethlehem, Pa. he sang in the Bach Chorus of Bethlehem, as well as a madrigal society. He was an avid supporter of the Metropolitan Opera of New York City.
Paul was an active member of the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church, Liberty Corner, New Jersey. He sang in the choir and taught in several discussion groups on various Biblical books and themes, as well as on C.S. Lewis and Henri Nouwen, whom he had personally known while at Yale Divinity School. Additionally he served on an endowment development committee.
He is survived by his brother, Dwight Lundgren of Valley Forge, Pa., as well as two nephews, Major Matthew Lundgren, USMC, Twenty Nine Palms, California and Peter Lundgren, Providence, Rhode Island.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, 11:00 am, at the Presbyterian Church of Liberty Corner, 45 Church St, Liberty Corner, NJ.
