Obituary of Charles Becht
Charles Becht III, PE, 88, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Evelyn, five children, twelve grandchildren and a great grandchild. The child of Charles and Helen Becht, he was raised in Irvington and served in the navy, returning to NJ to earn BS and MA degreesat Newark College of Engineering. A skilled trumpeter, he played in the NJ Youth Symphony and for dance bands throughout the state. He met his future wife Evelyn at a YMCA dance in Newark. They raised their family in a house they built together on Starlight Drive in Morris Township. He founded Becht Engineering Company in 1964 which received the NJ Family Business of the Year award in 2012. He was active in the community including Rotary Club, Stardust Swim Club, Scoutmaster, First Presbyterian Church Deacon, and the Library Foundation. He loved to travel and had a passion for antique cars and dancing. Services will be held at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 47 E Park Place, Morristown, at 11 am. A reception celebrating Charles' life will follow at 58 ShalebrookRoad, Morristown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Covenant House Times Square Station, P.O.
