Obituary of Eugenia Cerreta

Eugenia Cerreta, 81, of Basking Ridge, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Fellowship Village Nursing Home, Basking Ridge. Eugenia was born in Jersey City to the late Frank and Millie (Guida) Panuccio, on June 11, 1932 the youngest of five sisters. She graduated Lincoln High School in Jersey City where she was a member of the chorus and had perfect attendance for all four years. After graduation she worked as a secretary for various companies, including Schiavone Bonomo Corporation where she met her future husband. She married Michael Cerreta on October 30, 1955, and was happily married for almost 45 years before his death in May of 2000. She lived in Colonia for most of her marriage, and was a homemaker who raised their three children. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She was a long time parishioner at St John Vianney Church in Colonia. Over the years she was involved in different local organizations related to church and her children's schools. She dabbled in many hobbies, and especially enjoyed reading historical biographical novels. Later in life she downsized and moved to Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge where she made many great friendships. Eugenia is preceded in death by her husband, and two sisters, Connie and Rose, both of Califormia. Eugenia is survived by her son David, of Milltown; daughter Valerie (Robert Hopko) of Milford, and son Michael (Cheryl) of Tallahassee, FL, sisters Josephine and Madeline, and many nieces and nephews and her brother-in-law Frank, his wife Lois, their children Frank and Karen, and their families. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, 10:00 am at St. James Church, Basking Ridge. Entombment will follow at St. Gertude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
