Obituary of Barbara M Corcoran

Barbara M. Corcoran, 84, of Stirling, NJ passed away on March 6, 2014. She was born in Summit January 7, 1930 and was married to Leonard Corcoran in 1947. After marrying, she moved to Plainfield, NJ and soon began raising their family of four daughters in Piscataway, NJ. Barbara was president of Piscataway school’s PTA. Barbara and Leonard had many friends, and especially enjoyed socializing with the soldiers who fought alongside her husband in WWII, and their wives. These young GIs landed at Normandy and fought their way through Europe, eventually succeeding in reaching Berlin unscathed, and participated in the assault that brought down Hitler’s Germany. Leonard passed away in 1977, but Barbara continued a lifelong relationship with these dear friends. In her later years, she became a member of Long Hill Senior Citizens, and was a regular and active participant in their meetings and social activities. In addition, she still kept in contact with her Bernards High School friends, and attended annual reunions. She had excellent organizational skills, was an avid reader, and an excellent gardener. But most of all, she had a voracious love for music, and could often be heard playing her piano. Barbara is survived by her four daughters Barbara Riccardi of Orlando, FL; Cathleen Swiecicki of Monmouth Junction, NJ; Carol Miller, of Piscataway, NJ; and Jacqueline Forsberg of Basking Ridge, NJ. She also leaves nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Graveside Service will held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Somerset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Basking Ridge, 10:00 AM.
