John Busharis

Obituary of John G Busharis

John George Busharis died suddenly on Monday, August 12, 2013 in Morristown, NJ. He was born in 1925 in Boston, the only child of George Busharis and Mabel Robillard, and baptised at the then-newly constructed Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. After graduating from Boston English and beginning his studies at Northeastern, he enlisted in the Navy during the Second World War. After the war he attended Columbia University on the GI Bill, eventually obtaining degrees in electrical, mechanical, and industrial engineering. He continued proudly to serve in the Naval Reserves until he retired as a Commander in 1985.   A ham radio operator and master mechanic, he raced motorcycles in his youth. Later he turned to racing cars, preferring to own them rather than to drive them. Years after his racing days were over his #33 midget with Offenhauser engine still occupied a place of pride in his garage. He loved discussing Greek history.   John married Wanda Gallup in 1951 on a live television show called “Bride and Groom,” and they had recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. They moved to Basking Ridge in 1970 and joined Bishop Janes United Methodist Church, where he supervised the Sunday school classes for several years. He retired from Becton Dickinson in 1994 and spent the next decade traveling the world. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Mark Busharis (Michelle), his daughter, Barbara Busharis (Stan Tozer), and five grandchildren: Nikolas, George and Sophia Busharis, and Aidan and Ethan Tozer,   For more information please contact the Funeral Home at 908-766-0250 or to light an online condolence candle visit our website www.gcfuneralhome.com.
