Obituary of Shirley Marie Hayes

Shirley Marie Hayes (nee Vescovi), 86, formerly of Bernardsville, NJ passed away Thursday August 8, 2013 in Cary, NC. Mrs. Hayes is survived by her loving husband, Robert E. Hayes, her 5 children, JoAnn Coakley (Richard Nelson) of Bedminster, Sharon Greco (Joseph) of Basking Ridge, Thomas Hayes (Suzanne) of West Sussex, England, Judi Shaw (Mickey) of Sewell, NJ and Michele Kroeper (Christopher) of Apex, NC. She was also a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren (Meghan, Joey, Christie, Katie, Kyle, Caroline, Liam, Griffin, Finnegan and Emily). She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Miller of Lockport, IL and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hayes was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Ethel Vescovi, her sister, Mary Jane Lind and her brother, Robert Vescovi. Born in Lockport, Illinois, Mrs. Hayes earned her B.S. in Chemistry and was a graduate of the University of St. Francis; Joliet, IL. After her graduation from college she worked as a Chemist at Argonne National Labs in the Chicago area. Before moving to Bernardsville, Mrs. Hayes lived in Basking Ridge for 30 years dedicating her life to raising her family. She loved traveling with her husband and spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed many hobbies. She was an active member of the St. James Rosary Altar Society, The Bonafides of Somerset Hills and The Woman’s Club of Bernardsville throughout the years. Family and friends can visit on Friday August 16, 2013 from 7-9pm at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home; 101 S. Finley Avenue; Basking Ridge, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday August 17, 2013 at 10:00am at St. James Church, Basking Ridge, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Hayes to The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Retired/Infirmed Sisters Fund) 1433 Essington Rd. Joliet, IL 60435-2873.
