Jeffrey Hall

Obituary of Jeffrey Hall

Jeffrey A. Hall, a long-time resident of Short Hills, New Jersey, died in a skilled nursing facility in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, in the early hours of Sunday Morning, January 19, 2025. Jeff was 73 years old and had been in poor health for several years. Jeff was born June 3, 1951 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Charles and Marilyn Hall. Jeff’s father was an executive with Exxon and his mother was a school teacher. Regrettably, Jeff was born with a rare genetic disease called Galactosemia that causes lactose intolerance. The medical profession did not have much knowledge of this disease at the time and Jeff was given milk products that nearly caused him to die and did cause some brain damage.

Because of Jeff’s disease and the brain damage caused at birth, he was unable to fully take care of himself and lived with his parents for most of his life until his mother died in February, 2017. He then lived for several years by himself in an apartment in Millburn, New Jersey, until he moved in with his younger sister, Jody Hall, in Easton, Pennsylvania. His health began to deteriorate in 2023 and eventually he had to be cared for in nursing facilities.

Despite his disability, Jeff led a full life. He was always a hard worker, starting while in Millburn High School working part time at grocery stores. After graduation he was able to obtain employment at the US postal service at the Post Office in Short Hills where he remained until retirement. Jeff was very gregarious and friendly and talked freely with anybody and everybody he met. He was well known and popular in the neighborhood and the Short Hills community. Jeff enjoyed traveling both in the USA and other countries. He went on many trips by himself or with one of his siblings. He also was an avid coin collector and went to many coin shows around the country. He also took an interest in investing in the stock market and managed his own account with little assistance. Jeff was a sweet and lovely man and had a positive impact on everyone he met.

Jeff is survived by his sisters: Holly (Robin) and Jody; and brothers, Doug (Judy) and Brad. Also survived by several nieces: Sally, Jody, Lena, Lynn, and Iruka.
