Obituary of William Morgan Stevens

William (Will) Morgan Stevens, 84, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, on December 19, 2024, in Morristown, New Jersey.

 

Will was born in Akron, Ohio to Joan and Harry Stevens on October 29, 1940. He attended Brecksville High School, Hobart College, and Kent State University, prior to marrying Sandra, the love of his life in 1960. William began working at Ohio Bell while completing his law degree at Cleveland Marshall Law School in the evening. He later transferred to AT&T in New York City where he worked in finance and as a corporate lawyer.

 

Will enjoyed spending time with his family taking vacations to his favorite places including Canada, Wyoming, California and Florida.

 

Will had a keen interest in finance and the stock market. Other hobbies included reading, the arts, and cheering on his favorite New Jersey and Cleveland sports teams. Will also spent time volunteering with Bridges Outreach NJ, where he drove Kent Place students into New York City and Newark to help feed the homeless through street outreach.

 

After retiring from AT&T, Will spent his time traveling with his wife Sandra and spending time with his family whenever he could. He especially enjoyed being a grandfather and great grandfather.

 

William lived a simple but virtuous life. He was a loving and devoted husband, caring father, and faithful friend. He was a favorite of residents and staff at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge New Jersey.

 

Will is survived by his daughter, Alison Stevens Murphy, son, Keith Morgan Stevens, his grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth (Basillio) Vidan, Michael Joseph Murphy, Daniel (Parris) Stevens, Matthew Stevens, David (Carissa) Stevens, Thomas Stevens, his great-granddaughter, Ainara Alessandra Vidan, and sisters Sarah Stevens-Miles and Jo Doyne. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sandra Chappell Stevens, daughter-in-law, Susanne Stevens (2022), and his parents, Harry, and Joan Stevens.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the friends and staff at Fellowship Village who, along with the Morristown Medical Center Cardiac ICU Medical Staff, cared for Will and his family during the final days of his life.
