Obituary of William A Moakler
William A. (Bill) Moakler of Brick, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 after a long illness.
Bill was born in the Bronx, New York on January 4, 1944, son of William and Rosetta Moakler. Bill grew up in Bergenfield, NJ and attended St. John’s grammar school and St. Cecilia’s high school in Englewood, NJ class of 1962. Bill later became a radiology technologist and spent his career working in the New York City hospital system. Bill was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country from 1966 to 1968, including one year of service in Vietnam. Bill was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants and loved going to Yankee Stadium and Arthur Avenue, which is one block from Belmont Avenue where his Dad grew up.
Bill was predeceased by his twin brother Jack, former wife Sharon Clifford and long time companion Dorothy Owens. He is survived by his son William Moakler of Norwich, NY; daughter Beth Day (Chris) and grandson Noah of Grand Junction, Colorado; brother Thomas Moakler (Barbara) of Houlton, Maine; and sister Gail Cowser of New Milford, Connecticut. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Irene Hopkins, Block Island, RI; Arthur Davis (Leanne Bard) of Falmouth, ME; Erin Mandracchia (John) Rutland, MA; Thomas Moakler II of Portsmouth, NH; grand niece Jacqueline Hopkins and grand nephew Sam Hopkins and dozens of cousins in Ireland.
There will be a gathering of family/friends on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge. Rest in peace dear Bill. We all love you.
