Obituary of Hannah Timm
Hannah Reid Timm was born in Paterson, NJ in 1938 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on August 21, 2024 in Morristown, NJ.
Hannah was a first generation American, born of Scottish immigrants. As such her heritage was of paramount importance to her and all of her family. She started working as a young teen at a local bakery and enjoyed roller skating, movies, dances and Rainbow girls. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Paterson, NJ.
After graduating Eastside High School, she was employed as a typist and secretary, working her way up to a high security clearance in the Executive Suite with Curtiss Wright. While she had no shortage of suitors, Hannah agreed to a blind date set up for her by her sister Isabel and brother-in-law Lou. Herb said it was love at first sight and ten days later he asked her to marry him. After a proper engagement, Hannah and Herb were married at St. Paul’s. They adored each other until his passing in 1992.
A few years into their marriage they had two daughters, Christine in ’64 and Lorie in ‘67. The family was close knit and enjoyed plenty of volunteering, church involvement, dogs, Girl Scouts, dancing school, friends and singing four-part harmony in the car. Hannah and Herb raised the girls with lots of love and excellent guidance – and plenty of fun. Christine and Lorie grew up, married and gave Hannah 5 grandchildren, all of whom remained close and attentive to their grandmother.
After her husband Herb’s passing in 1992, Hannah became involved in Parents Without Partners and served on various committees. With the organization she enjoyed travel adventures, dances, made wonderful friends and made lasting memories.
Hannah was hard-working, fun-loving, fiercely loyal and honest. She was an elegant woman with impeccable taste. She will be remembered for many things; among them her straight talk, high standards, warm smile and that sparkle in her eyes. She enjoyed Mah Jongg, murder mysteries, game shows, crocheting, line dancing, endless cups of tea and desserts in the company of her friends and family.
Hannah is survived by her two daughters, their husbands and her 5 precious grandchildren.
Should anyone feel called to make a donation in her memory, her personal favorites were: PBS, St. Jude’s and local veteran support organizations.
