Obituary of Pauline A Nadal

Pauline Ann Nadal, just months shy of her 100th birthday, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024. Pauline was a twenty year resident of Basking Ridge, NJ. Prior to that she lived in Brentwood, NY, where she raised her four children. Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Miguel Nadal.

Pauline was born in Pernek, Czechoslovakia in 1925, and emigrated to the United States, settling in Carteret, NJ when she was 5 years old. She joined her parents and sister and settled into a Czech community and quickly assimilated into her new home country. Pauline attended Carteret public schools and upon graduation, enrolled in the nursing program at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. While working as a nurse, she met her lifelong love and partner, Miguel Antonio Nadal, born in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba. After their marriage, Pauline supported her husband’s thriving medical practice with commitment and care.

Pauline was the daughter of Stephen Valek and Anna (Farba) Valek and sister of Sadie Kanitra. Pauline was the beloved mother of Donna Leahy of Gainesville, VA, Michael Nadal and his wife Elizabeth of Atlanta, GA, Arlene Sullivan and her husband John of Harvard, MA, and Cathy Nadal Willis and her husband Steve of Bethlehem Township, NJ.

Pauline was happiest when she was with her children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Their visits included cooking, baking and admiring her garden full of pansies and colorful snapdragons. Highlights of her life were the multi-generational meals that she enjoyed with her family and lively visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was surrounded by loving members of her extended family in the days leading up to her graceful exit.

A celebration of Pauline’s life is planned on September 28th for family and friends at 11:00 AM at St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville, NJ.
