Obituary of Bryan J Garvin

Bryan Garvin passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, August 16, 2024, in Morristown, New Jersey. Bryan was a devoted husband to his wife, Christi, a loving father to Will and Kensi, a brother, an uncle, and a friend.

Bryan was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 7, 1964. He was the third sibling in a family of six brothers and one sister. His father, Steve Garvin, passed away at a young age leaving his mother, Janet Nostrant to raise the family as a single mother.  Janet instilled strong values and brought up a tightly knit family. A devoted Catholic, she encouraged them to play every sport, with hockey becoming their passion. Bryan graduated second in his class from St. Francis High School in Athol Springs, New York, and followed his brothers to Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. At Hamilton, he played NESCAC hockey, was an active member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and made lifelong friends. He earned a degree in Mathematics in 1987.

After graduation, Bryan moved to the New York City area and began his insurance career with his brother, Kevin Garvin, at the Garvin Group. Bryan and Kevin went on to build a successful insurance business, which Bryan remained with until its sale in 2016.

Bryan met his wife, Christi, in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1994, and they were married in 1997 at Bishop Janes Church in Basking Ridge. Bryan and Christi started their married life in Jersey City, where Will and Kensi were born. The family moved to Bernardsville, New Jersey, in 2008. Bryan deeply loved being a husband and father.

Bryan had a gift for conversation and a talent for making friends, always greeting others with a smile. His lifelong friendships spanned from Buffalo to Hamilton College to NYC to Bernardsville, NJ.

Bryan will be dearly missed by Christi, Will, and Kensi, as well as his brothers Steve (wife Tami, nephews Jack, Ben, and Grant), Kevin (wife Lori, nephews Ryan and Kyle), Kelly (wife Denise, niece Danielle and nephew Adam), Eddie (wife Jennifer, nephew Colin and niece Emily), and Michael (wife Melissa and nephew Cole and nieces Caroline and Mackenzie), his sister Karen (Kenny and niece Hilary and nephew Nick), his brother-in-law John (wife Megan and nephews Justin and Patrick).

Visitation is planned for Monday, August 19th, at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home in Basking Ridge, NJ, from 4-7pm. A celebration of Bryan’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 20th, at 11am at Bishop Janes in Basking Ridge, NJ. All are welcome to join in this celebration of Bryan’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Bryan’s honor to St. Francis High School in Athol Springs, New York, where a scholarship in his memory will be established for boys from economically challenged backgrounds. A link has been included below.
