Obituary of Robert E Pollock

Robert Edward Pollock, Bob, lived a life characterized by love, resilience, and a pursuit of adventure that touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Bob was born on September 26, 1939, in Staten Island to Elvira (Marks) and Robert Arthur.  From the very beginning, he embraced life with an enduring spirit. His passing on August 16, 2024, came just four months after the loss of his cherished wife, Teddy, a testament to the profound love that reunited him with his beloved partner.

Bob's legacy is one of love and dedication, survived by his son, Robert Theodore, daughter-in-law, Kath, grandson Robert Anthony, granddaughter Meghan, and his sister Sandy McGetrick. Bob is preceded in death by his sister, Lynne Smedley, her husband Ray, and his brother-in-law, Ron McGetrick. In addition to an extensive community that he touched with his warmth and generosity, he also leaves behind a cherished group of nieces and nephews: Mark and Amy Smedley, Karen and Carl Gulbish, Todd and Jen Smedley, Lenny and Marie Wise, Cristin and Sam Winslow, and Michael and Lizzy McGetrick.

Bob's childhood was nothing short of idyllic, spent sailing weekends in the Raritan Bay on his family's sailboat, Hi-Ho. It was here that his deep love for the open sea was first ignited. Following his graduation from Lafayette College, Bob's commitment to service led him to the U.S. Navy, where he dedicated five years of his life and later served as a reservist, ultimately attaining the distinguished rank of Captain. His passion for the sea and exploration was epitomized in the tender care he lavished upon his sailboat, Champagne, at the Richmond County Yacht Club, a tradition that had been passed down through generations in his family. His thirst for adventure took him to diverse destinations, including the enchanting lands of Australia.

Bob and Teddy cherished the joy of dancing and regularly embraced this passion together. They were active members of their church, Liberty Corner Presbyterian, sharing their voices in the choir. After a brief separation, they are now reunited in heaven, where they are undoubtedly dancing and singing together once more.

In memory of Bob's remarkable journey, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society in lieu of flowers, to honor his unwavering spirit and service.

Bob's indelible mark will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations through the love and dedication he showed to his family, his remarkable military service, and his unyielding passion for sailing and discovery. May his spirit rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to be a source of strength and inspiration to all.

Visitation will be held at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 10:00 - 12:00pm.
