Obituary of Margaret R Culkin

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Rose Culkin. She passed away surrounded by family at her home on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 88.

Margaret was born on June 29, 1936, as the youngest of four children to Cataldo and Rosa Perrone in Brooklyn, NY. She attended grammar school at St. Ephrem Catholic Academy and graduated from St. Brendan's High School. Margaret received her Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts from Empire State College.

In 1967, she married the love of her life, Peter L. Culkin. Margaret and Peter moved to East Setauket, N.Y. in 1974, where they raised their four children. In 2007, they relocated to New Jersey, eventually settling in Florham Park.

She worked for Citibank in New York City for many years and later worked at Stony Brook University.

Margaret and Peter spent their winters in Delray Beach, Florida. Margaret was a passionate artist who enjoyed painting and drawing in her free time. She filled the walls of her homes with her beautiful artwork and also loved directing musical plays during her retirement.

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Peter; her children Peter C. Culkin (Karen), Bill Culkin (Teresa), Meaghan Pizzo (Kenneth) and Terrence Culkin (Barbara), and her sister Teresa Mills (John).  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Liam, Kenneth, Dominic, Isabella, Braeden, PJ, and Alex, as well as her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Nicoletta Florentino (Salvatore) of New York and her brother Joseph Perrone (Grace) of Maryland.

Family and friends are invited to the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home at 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, N.J. for visitation on Wednesday, July 17th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 10:00 am at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, N.J.
