Obituary of Edna M LaGreca
Edna Squire LaGreca, 86, born April 16, 1938 in Oxon Hill, MD, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024. One of three children, born to parents Farren and Lucille Squire, Edna and family moved to Bay Ridge Brooklyn in 1940 and then in 1949, settled in Union City, NJ where Edna graduated from Emerson High School in 1955 and from the Newark Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. In 1959, she married Onofrio Alfred LaGreca. Al and Edna parented four children, Theresa, Catherine, William and Dina while Edna began, continued and advanced her career as a caring and dedicated RN nurse, first at Newark Presbyterian Hospital, next at Fair Lawn Memorial, ultimately concluded her outstanding career after twenty years at Wayne General Hospital first as an ICU nurse, and finally as the administrative supervisor of nurses.
In 1995, Edna and Al retired to their beautiful Tanglewood home in the Poconos, PA where they enjoyed many family gatherings and the natural surroundings. Several years after Al’s untimely passing in 1998, Edna relocated to The Essex and Sussex in Spring Lake, NJ where she enjoyed many more years of family, friends and travel. Edna’s last few years were spent in Lincoln Park, NJ until her passing.
Though she did not officially hold the title of “Nurse Edna” for many years, those who loved her, knew her well or who even met her briefly, knew that she was the ultimate, lifetime care-giver. She was and always will be, Edna, Sister, Mom and Nana to the members of her family, including her brother Jack Squire, 92, her four children, Terry (spouse Bob), Cathy, Bill (spouse Judy) and Dina, her fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
