Obituary of Ruth Meininger
Ruth Ann Stewart Meininger, 91, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on April 7, 2024.
Ruth was born in Morristown, NJ, to Thomas and Ruth Stewart on June 23, 1932. She graduated Bernards High School in 1950 and Orange Memorial Nursing School in 1953. Ruth was an RN at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, and finished her 40-year nursing career at Dr. Costabile’s private practice in Murray Hill.
Ruth married the love of her life, Edward George Meininger, Jr. on January 16, 1954. They celebrated almost 69 years of marriage and created a beautiful large family of 65, including their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and loved entertaining her family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandkids with traditions of baking Christmas cookies, coloring Easter eggs, taking them out to eat, and just always being there for them. She tried to attend every graduation, shower, wedding, sporting event, and other activities that involved her grandkids. They all loved their Nana, and she loved them.
Ruth and Ed spent many years enjoying their shore home in Mystic Island, NJ. Ruth was a past President of Millington Fire Company Women’s Auxiliary and a past Stirling Elks Lodge 2392 member. She was a member of the Bishop Janes Methodist Church.
Ruth is predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Meininger, brothers Allen “Red” Stewart, Robert Stewart, and her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Moore.
She is survived by her six sons, Thomas (Nancy) of Cassville, NY, Bradley (Dana) of Chester, NJ, James of Alder Creek, NY, Robert (Mary Kay) of Ft. Collins, CO, Glenn (Laura) of Millington, NJ and Brian (Linda) of Mystic Island, NJ: her 16 Grandchildren and their spouses and 24 Great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Hazel Stewart of Gilbert, SC. And many loved nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who know her.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, June 22 at the Stirling Elks Lodge at 1:00 – 4:00pm, with a Service at 2:00pm. Stirling Elks is located at 1138 Valley Rd., Stirling, NJ
