Obituary of Theodora Pollock

Theodora Bethlehem Pollock passed away on April 2, 2024.  Teddy was the younger of twin daughters born to Theodore and Agnes Bethlehem on November 11, 1941.  She was proud of her Dutch immigrant father, while her maternal family roots in New Jersey date back before the United States was founded – making Teddy a true Jersey girl.

Teddy earned her degree in education from Rutgers University. She began her career teaching in the Kenilworth public school system. Teddy married Bob Pollock on September 12, 1964.  Eight and a half years later – to the day – they welcomed their only child, son Robert Theodore.  After Rob’s birth, Teddy chose to stay home and raise him.  As he grew older, she returned to education by tutoring local children from the family’s home in Warren, NJ.

In addition to her parents, Teddy was predeceased by her twin sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Len Wise; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynne and Ray Smedley.  She is survived by her husband, Bob, son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Kath, and grandchildren Robert and Meghan.  Teddy is also survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy and Ron McGetrick.  She was lovingly known as Aunt Teddy to Mark (Amy) Smedley, Karen (Carl) Gulbish, Todd (Jen) Smedley, Lenny (Marie) Wise, Cristin (Sam) Winslow, and Michael (Lizzy) McGetrick.

Teddy cherished being a mother, grandmother, and aunt, never forgetting a birthday with one of her signature cards.  Her holiday pies were a beloved tradition. 

Teddy was an active member of Liberty Corner Presbyterian church, running the Strawberry Festival and singing in the choir with Bob. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home.

Burial will be private for the family.
