Obituary of Harry V. Keefe, III

Harry V. Keefe III, “Biff” of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Charleston, SC, passed away Thursday, February 29th, 2024. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, Harry passed surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Harry was born October 22nd, 1960, in Greenwich, CT. He attended Brunswick School, where he played varsity soccer, earning a scholarship to play at Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he was also a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. While at school, Harry met his wife of 39 years, Carol Ashton.

Patient, deeply empathetic, generous, and wise, Harry was quick-witted with a dry sense of humor and sharp insight. He was a thoughtful listener and intentional with his words. Harry was always lending a hand and believed in doing the right thing, even when no one was looking. He preferred small groups of close friends and could be found always speaking to the person in the room who needed inclusion.

Harry was a dependable and supportive father, dedicating much of his free time to the interests and passions of his girls. Surrounded by strong-willed women, he was always a kind, calming force with a smile. Harry spent many years in Lavallette, NJ, and Charleston, SC, with Carol, making happy memories and walking his dogs along the coast. An avid athlete, Harry most frequently could be found biking hundreds of miles around New Jersey and raising money to support research for Crohn’s and Colitis. He was passionate about photography and saw the beauty in nature.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Keefe, three daughters, Ashton Keefe and husband Cabell, Kellie Ryan and husband Chris, Heather Phillips, and husband Peter; five grandchildren; sister Kathy Raffel and husband Corey, and Anita Keefe. Harry was predeceased by his father, Harry V. Keefe Jr., his mother, Jean Mulcahy Keefe, and his dogs, Amber, Meredith, Hunter, Rosie, and Penny.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Basking Ridge, NJ, on March 8th, 2024 at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, Harry's ask you consider a donation in his name to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation
