Obituary of Edward Townley
Edward R. Townley, Sr. passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, at his residence in Highland Park, NJ at the age of 97. Edward, known as Ted, was a true man for all seasons. Ted was an avid fly fisherman, enthusiastic gardener, and accomplished woodworker. His workbench has survived a move to his grandson’s home out of state and the last canary that he raised is happily singing at his daughter’s home.
After serving in the US Navy in the Pacific during WW2, Ted graduated from Rutgers University and later completed his master’s degree at Stevens Institute of Technology. He was a research chemist with Schering/Merck and retired in 1990 to enjoy the country life in Hunterdon County where he would fly fish its many streams to his heart’s content.
Ted is survived by his children, Linda Snyder, Carol and Errol Brudner, Edward and Jennifer (Caster) Townley, Jr., and Steven and Mary Beth (Foschia)Townley, and his grandchildren: Matthew and David Brudner, Nicholas and Corinne Townley, Lauren Fairchild, Bennet and Noah Townley, and a great granddaughter, Ramona Brudner. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Vallacchi), his sister Dorothy, and his daughter Deborah Fairchild. Active until the end of his long life, Ted enjoyed the stock market, reading the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal cover to cover and relaxing every weekday afternoon with Judge Judy and evening with the New York Yankees. We will forever miss him at the family table.
Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ from 2:00 - 3:00pm. The memorial service will start at 3:00pm at the funeral home. For further information, or to leave an online condolence message please visit gcfuneralhome.com.
