Obituary of Joseph Jay Medenilla

We regret to announce the sudden passing of Joseph ‘Jay’ Ray Felipe Medenilla, 49, of Basking Ridge, NJ on October 1, 2023. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his unexpected death. Jay was born on January 8, 1974 in San Francisco and grew up amongst the Filipino community in the Delaware area, where he was a proud alumni of both Salesianum High School and University of Delaware. He was a Regional Sales Director with Baxter, where he managed a team that he referred to not only as colleagues, but as family.

Ultimately, he settled in Basking Ridge to raise his family, where he was a staple in the community and active in his children’s activities. He was usually heard cheering loudly at baseball games, volleyball matches, track meets, and football games. He loved the children that he coached as if they were his own, this was truly his labor of love. When he was not cheering for his children, he could be heard from miles away rooting for his Philadelphia Eagles. Jay was an avid traveler, chronicling his family’s every step around the world with entertaining videos that he would meticulously craft after every trip or event.

He brought light and laughter to everyone he encountered which included many practical jokes. Jay was predeceased by his father, Raymundo Medenilla. He is survived by his wife Sara (Woodland), daughter Maura, son Jacob, mother Maria Luisa Felipe Medenilla, sister Mary Rose Medenilla Hidalgo, brother-in-law Redemptor, nephews Ryan (spouse Candice, daughters Ruby and Jade) and Brandon (fiancé Paige), and niece Rachel (Mike). He is a cherished brother-in-law to Samantha (Woodland) and Ethan Armstrong, niece Maddie and nephew Luke; also adored by in-laws Dale and Susie Woodland. Jay is also survived by many, many relatives and friends, too numerous to name but loved all the same. We miss him more than words can say.

Jay loved life and adored his friends and family.  He would become best friends with anyone and everyone, he had a true gift with making connections. For all those lives he touched, please join us in celebrating his wonderful legacy.  Visitation will be held at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 10:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a the Funeral Mass from 2:30-3:30pm, reception immediately following at the church.
