Obituary of John P Busher
John (Jack) Peter Busher, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Fellowship Village Senior Living in Basking Ridge, NJ. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Janice Freyler Busher, in 2010.
He was born to James Joseph Busher and Julia Cullinane Busher in Dobbs Ferry, NY, on August 6, 1935. Both his parents and siblings, James Busher and Eileen Busher Matthews, predeceased him.
After attending Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, Jack graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He went to work in the banking world, most notably with Irving Trust and Bank of America, as Vice President in the Real Estate lending divisions.
Jack and Janice crossed the mighty Hudson River to raise their three children in New City, NY and joined St. Francis of Assisi parish. A devoted Catholic, Jack became one of the first Eucharistic Ministers at St. Francis. The family’s favorite vacation spot was Montauk, going almost every year, even when the grandchildren came along. Jack was an avid tennis player in his younger years and continued playing golf until his seventies. He learned a new sport, soccer, to help coach his son’s soccer team for many years. He was very perplexed when his grandson began playing lacrosse, wondering out loud “why can’t he play a sport I understand?”
Jack is survived by his loving children, Julie Keating and her husband Sean, John Busher, Anne Sorochen and her husband Bill; his two cherished grandchildren, Charlie and Grace; and his many nieces and nephews who adored “Uncle Jack.” He is also survived by his longtime doting companion, Patty Rasmussen. The Busher family is grateful Patty came into Jack’s life.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 30th, 11 am at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. James Roman Catholic Church.
