Obituary of Evelyn Jean Pankuch

EVELYN JEAN PANKUCH (nee O'Connor) born November 21, 1920 Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 12, 2012. Daughter of Fred and Anna O'Connor, Evelyn was born in Port Matilda, Pennsylvania on November 21, 1920. Evelyn grew up in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mill Hall High School in 1938 and Lock Haven University in 1942 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in teaching. During World War II, Evelyn worked in the payroll department at Sylvania Industries. She worked at the University of Pittsburgh while her husband went to law school at the University. She was the beloved wife of John C. Pankuch whom she married on May 25, 1946. After marriage they lived in Dormont, Pennsylvania. They also lived in Windsor, Connecticut and Chappaqua, New York before moving to Basking Ridge, New Jersey in 1969. Evelyn has lived in Basking Ridge since 1969. She enjoyed a winter month in Florida each year, river cruises, ocean cruises and weekend dinners with her family. Evelyn traveled with her loving husband to many places throughout the world, including Hawaii for their 45th, 50th and 55th wedding anniversaries. She was very active in church activities at the Somerset Hills Lutheran Church, serving on the Women's Guild and serving Meal on Wheels. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed reading to her grandsons. She will be dearly missed by her two grandsons. Evelyn is survived by her husband, John C. Pankuch, her daughter, Linda J. Pankuch, of Middlesex, New Jersey her daughter, Donna K. Legband, her son-in law, Scott W. Legband, and her two grandsons, John and Lane Legband all of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Evelyn is predeceased by three children, David Bruce, Patricia Ann and John Charles. She had three brothers: William O'Connor, deceased, Edwin O'Connor of Melville, New York, and Kenneth O'Connor of Grants, New Mexico. Friends and Family are invited to visit Galloway & Crane Funeral Home on Monday, October 15, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at on October 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Somerset Hills Lutheran Church at 350 Lake Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
