Obituary of Kathleen D Byrnes

Kathleen D. Byrnes of Bernardsville, NJ passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Born on September 23, 1924, in Trenton, NJ, Kay attended Berkeley Business School and studied bookkeeping. In 1943, she met and later married her husband , George S. Byrnes of Queens, NY. They lived in Flushing, Queens prior to moving to Bernardsville, where they have resided for over 50 years raising their family of six children. A devoted wife and mother, Kay's first priority was creating a happy and loving home. She found great satisfaction and pride in her family. As a result of her warm and generous nature, kind spirit and wonderful sense of humor, Kay had many friends. As a devout Catholic, Kay's faith brought her solace and strength. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Her warm smile, contagious laugh, keen sense of humor, and warm heart brought light and happiness to everyone around her. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling with her husband and was accomplished in sewing, knitting and needlework. Kay was sadly predeceased by her daughter, Eileen Marie, in 1997. Surviving is her beloved husband of 59 years, George S. Byrnes, and her five children: George Edward, and his wife, Betty, of Gladstone, NJ, Mary Catherine of Laramie, WY, Kathleen Marie of Bethlehem, PA, Edward John and his wife, Amy, of Bernardsville, NJ, and James Joseph of Laramie, WY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: George Byrnes, Matthew Hardman, Emily Hardman, Jamie Lindsey, Brenna Lindsey, Katie Byrnes, Jack Byrnes, Brian Byrnes and Violet Byrnes. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 16 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home in Basking Ridge, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, September 17 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bernardsville, NJ, followed by the burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, NJ.
