Obituary of William A Stake

William “Bill” Arthur Stake, formerly of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away on April 27, 2022 at the age of 73, at his home in Whitehouse Station, NJ.  His battle with brain cancer in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges as he fought until the very end.

Bill was born in Chicago, IL to Stan and Betty Stake on October 12, 1948.  He was always very proud of his 100% Swedish heritage.  He spent his childhood in Bryn Mawr, PA attending Haverford High School but graduating from Edina High School in Edina, MN.  He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Lehigh University where he played trombone in the marching band and was president of his fraternity, Theta Delta Chi.  He worked at AT&T for 34 years retiring in 2004 as Vice President of Consumer Sales and Services.  Bill was an active member of Bishop Janes United Methodist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ where he served on the board of trustees and could always be found selling Christmas trees during the holidays.

After retirement, Bill enjoyed a life of travel with his wife of 50 years, Carolyn “Lyn” Downes Stake.  He always enjoyed long days on the golf course with family and friends and sharing his knowledge of wine with everyone, but his greatest pleasure came from his family.  Bill and Lyn are proud parents to two children: Cindy (Matt) Chartrand of Lansdale, PA and Matt (Mackenzie) Stake of Rumson, NJ.  Bill was a loving Pop Pop to their four grandchildren: Luke, Alyssa, Hailey, and Penny.  He is also survived by his brothers: Eric (Michele) Stake of Merion, PA and Jim (Mimi) Stake of Edina, MN.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Bishop Janes United Methodist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, please donate on Bill’s behalf to the Cancer Hope Network, 2 North Road, Suite A, Chester, NJ 07930.  Please visit:  https://cancerhopenetwork.org.
