Obituary of Daniel G Patyk

Daniel Patyk, age 85, died on Sunday, April 24 in his home in Mendham, NJ.  Dan is survived by his wife of over 58 years Phyllis, his three sons (and daughters-in-law) Dan Jr. (Julie), Chris (Suzanne) and Matt, and six grandchildren Nicholas, Annie, Kate, Hagan, Lylah and Isabella.

Dan grew up in Plymouth, PA and attended the Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He joined Bell Telephone Laboratories upon graduation, and while working earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960 from NYU.  After rising to head Bell Labs departments responsible for systems engineering of switching systems, Dan transitioned to AT&T in 1974, holding executive positions in product management and marketing for another 13 years.  Dan departed AT&T to join start-up Octel Communications in 1987, where he built the company’s Voice Information Services organization into the leading supplier of voice messaging equipment and services to Regional Bell Companies and wireless service providers.  After the public offering and subsequent acquisition of Octel by Lucent Technologies, Dan retired in 1999.

Dan was fortunate to enjoy over 23 years in retirement, traveling extensively with his wife Phyllis, playing golf, and routinely and warmly welcoming family and friends in their Mendham home.  He taught his children and grandchildren to work hard, be respectful and kind, and to find and follow a passion.  He will be missed by all that knew him.

Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 6 New Street, Mendham, NJ at 11am on Friday, May 6, 2022.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Market Street Mission, 9 Market St. in Morristown, NJ.  For further information, or to leave an online condolence message please visit www.gcfuneralhome.com.
