Seldom has God given so much to so many people through one woman.

Angelina Jean Modugno Melick, age 91, passed away peacefully February 11, 2022 in Bridgewater NJ. Jean grew up in Bernardsville and was a graduate of Bernards High School, class of 1948 and a life-long resident of Basking Ridge. On June 20th, 1959 she married Allen Melick. Allen and Jean lived in Basking Ridge and raised their 2 sons, Steven Melick and Jeff Melick, both of Basking Ridge. Jean was pre-deceased by her husband Allen, her parents and her sister Carol and her brothers Emil and Jerry.

Jean is survived by her two sons, Steven and his partner Julio. Jeff and Jeff’s wife Amy and their two sons, Allen and Sawyer. Jean’s grandchildren were the joy of her life. Nana, as she was known to them, would sing to them, play with them and help with homework when they were young, and had the joy of seeing them grow up.
Jean was a very good cook, and her family always looked forward to her Italian dishes. Jean passed along to her children and grandchildren her famous eggplant recipe, and the annual tradition of frying and packaging eggplant continues.

Jean worked at Bell Labs and AT&T and retired in 1994. Jean was a life-long member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Jean enjoyed life and traveling. She traveled to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Alaska, Belgium, Iceland, Italy, to name a few, and drove across the country in an RV. Jean and her sister Carol took every trip offered by the Senior Citizens groups in Bernardsville and Basking Ridge, they traveled together and enjoyed every moment.
Jean enjoyed reading and tending to her many plants. But her favorite hobby was knitting. Jean was a skilled knitter and spent her time making sweaters, hats, mittens, socks and blankets for all of her friends and family. And in each sweater she made, she put a label that said “Handmade by Jean Melick”. She was proud of her work and loved to share her beautiful and creative knitting with everyone.

Jean was blessed with wonderful friends and a loving family and she lived a full and beautiful life. Jean will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be held at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ on Friday February 18, 2022 from 5:00 – 8:00pm.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday February 19, 2022 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ at 10:00 am.
