Obituary of Gloria Ann Gallo

Gloria Ann Gallo of New Vernon, NJ passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday December 1st, 2021. Gloria was born 93 years ago on March 16, 1928 to Marian (Guzzo) and Samuel Posella. She was raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, N.J. to a musical family. As a young child, blessed with perfect pitch, a photographic memory and innate talent, she learned to play the piano and subsequently became organist at her church at age 14. She went on to become a concert pianist at the Mannes School of Music in NYC. During WW2, she entertained with her piano on wheels for the piano for the Troops at Fort Dix. She gave up her musical career after marriage to Mario T. Gallo in 1951, however, music continued to be an important part of her full life. Gloria and her husband initially lived in Union N.J. and then moved and raised their five children in Short Hills, N.J. She volunteered relentlessly for her children's schools and church auxiliaries, She became a travel agent for Chartwell Travel in Union, NJ. She was on the board of the N.J. Pops and Seton Hall Auxiliary. Gloria's second and most important career began after her husband passed away in 1970. She devoted her life for the next 51 years raising her 5 children and 13 grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of deep faith , compassion, determination and strength, loyalty, kindness, family values, but mostly selfless love. She will be missed everyday by her loving son: Thomas M. Gallo and his wife, Deborah Gallo of Bernardsville, NJ, and her four daughters: Diane Gallo- Van Ess ,MD and husband, David Van Ess, MD of Longboat Key, FL.; Lisa Gallo-Conklin and husband Graham (Chip) Conklin of Ridgewood, NJ., Marian Cunningham and William Cunningham of Morristown, N.J., Nannette Buchney and husband, Robert Buchney, of Peapack, NJ. Grandmother to Daniel, Thomas, Elizabeth, Matthew, JJ, Katie, Graham, Timmy, Tara, John, Tyler, William and James. She was the great-grandmother to Max, Cooper, Duke, Sloane, Sidney, Benjamin, Logan and Lorraine. In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was predeceased by her two sisters, Rose Benigno and Constance Imperial. Most people are remembered by the one important accomplishment in their life. Gloria will be remembered for a million "little things". Gloria's generosity and selflessness brought joy to all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, Saturday, December 4th, 2021 from 11:00am – 1:00 PM. Funeral Mass will follow at Christ the King Church, 16 Blue Mill Rd, New Vernon, NJ 07976 at 1:30pm. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham, NJ.
